CINEWORKS INTERNSHIP

WHAT HAVE I BEEN WORKING ON?

I was available to help with the organization, deliverance, and chaperoning for the annual Meet The Filmmakers salons. (During VIFF 2009)

Focused mainly on webwork: adding new filmmakers to the website, updating their profiles, and adding new films to the archives.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED?

Going into this internship, I had very little knowledge and experience in film in general. I have learned a lot about different cameras, equipment and techniques involved in filmmaking. I have also had the opportunity to be in the presence of and meet with some very talented filmmakers.

HOW HAS MY ROLE AND WORK SHIFTED FROM MY INITIAL SCOPE OF WORK?

I have begun getting a lot more into webwork, which is what I had initially hoped for.
We have talked about possibly collaborating with interns from VIVO around the arts cuts.
I’ve been asked to do some website updating for VIVO as well.

ARE THERE ANY NEW GOALS THAT HAVE BEEN DEFINED?

I would definitely like to continue to further my skills in web design/coding, as well as learn new design skills. I also hope to gain a lot more knowledge around film and filmmaking.

DIVA 300: SCOPE OF WORK REPORT

As an intern with Cineworks Independent
Filmmakers Society, I will assist in the
promotion and exhibition of independent
film in BC. My skills in web design, graphic
design, and my knowledge and background
in design software will benefit me during
this internship.

My first task is to design and create the
poster for this year’s Meet the Filmmakers.
Future tasks include the coordination and
organization of Meet the Filmmakers,
general website updates, organization and
distribution of newsletters and
advertisements regarding upcoming events,
and advocacy around the cuts to arts+culture
funding. There also may be the opportunity
to research and write for World Aids Day.

This internship is a great opportunity to
meet new people and get my design work
produced and distributed. I also hope to
enhance my skills and gain more knowledge
for production equipment and the film
environment.
